Terrfific Tortola- Land and Sea Excursion Review

We visited Tortola, also known as the British Virgin Islands in May 2015 on the wonderful Norwegian Getaway. We elected to do the Land and Sea Tour NCL offers and it was a very enjoyable excursion! A tour boat met us at the pier and took us on a scenic motorboat ride to see both St. Thomas and Tortola, as well as the picturesque area surrounding these islands. The waves were a bit high at times, however, and as we were sitting in the back of the boat I felt a bit seasick for the first time ever. If you are prone to seasickness I'd suggest sitting in the middle of the boat! The captain shared lots of information about the history of Tortola, as well as information regarding life for residents of Tortola today. Rum punch and non alcoholic punch was served as part of this excursion on the ship as well. The boat trip ended at Soper's Hole Marina where we had about 45 minutes to check out the shops and eateries. My husband and I tried one of Pusser's famous painkiller drinks at the marina and they were quite tasty! There are craft and gift shops, as well as a beautiful marina to walk around at. The land portion of of tour had us regrouping in front of the marina to take an open air bus tour of the island itself. Tortola is mountainous like it's counterpart St. Thomas, and there were plenty of places for photo ops. Our tour guide was friendly and shared more information about the local area, foliage and animals who inhabited this beautiful island. The tour ended about an hour later by dropping our group off at the pier where the Getaway was docked. As we all like boat rides this excursion was truly the best of both worlds for us to visit Tortola!
